Evaluation of Automated Information Systems for Juvenile Court

WRMA was contracted to help the State of Maryland’s Administrative Office of the Courts to assess two juvenile court information systems from the perspective of meeting Federal requirements. The project included the development of criteria for the assessment of the systems and site visits to each State court.
Accurate and complete information from court proceedings are critical for assessing and monitoring many of the mandated State outcomes. Although many State CPS agencies have made progress in collecting and reporting data from their child welfare systems, most of the courts are not currently collecting the data necessary to help rate State performance and inform and improve policy. The courts have been called on to improve their data collection and reporting abilities and to examine the suitability of the systems currently in place.
WRMA staff analyzed the two systems that the Administrative Office of the Courts was considering, compared their strengths and weaknesses for capturing and storing the information vital to informing and improving State practice in child protection, and produced a recommendation on how the Office should proceed. |
